My dogs have helped me lots. I struggled with depression and my dogs would come cuddle me if I was crying. Spending time with them was a good way to distract myself from engaging in cutting. Thinking about not having my dogs was always effective at keeping suicidal thoughts away.

this is tagged as dogs, but my pet is a cat. still, she was an effective therapy animal while i was going through depression. she's the first and only creature ever to love me unconditionally. it's hard to put into words how good it feels that she's always happy to see me, and will never change her mind or get tired of me.
